Biography
An accomplished advocate and leader, Thomas Pressly provides legal advice and aggressive representation to clients in Louisiana state and federal trial and appellate courts. Thomas’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, insurance defense, premises liability, casualty and general litigation matters. Since 2014, he has gained the respect of judges, his his clients and his peers by through zealous, successful advocacy. In 2024, Thomas was appointed to serve on the Louisiana State Law Institute Council. Thomas was named the 2023 Young Professional of the Year by the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Initiative.
He is in his first term serving as the Louisiana Senator for District 38, which includes portions of Caddo and DeSoto Parishes in Northwest Louisiana. He serves on the Finance, Health & Welfare, and Environmental Quality committees, and as vice chair of the Labor committee. He previously served one term in the Louisiana House of Representatives, after being elected without opposition in 2019. As a legislator, Thomas has received acclaim for his common-sense approach to legislation, advocacy for pro-growth policies, and determination to tackle tough issues facing Louisiana using conservative solutions.
Thomas obtained his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2013 and a Bachelors of Science cum laude from Texas Christian University in 2009, after serving as student body president. After graduation from law school, Thomas served as law clerk for United States District Judge S. Maurice Hicks, Jr. of the Western District of Louisiana, where he gained a strong foundation in legal research and writing and federal practice.
